Your Place In Line
I was chatting with a friend of mine
And we were discussing
The ins and outs of being a one
You know the unattached in the time of a pandemic
After a while
We happened upon discussing some friends
Who had gone through a rough patch
But managed to hold it together and come out the other side
I asked if my friend thought
That her friend ever regretted hanging in there
And staying the course
With her man
She answered quickly
Definitely not -
When I asked why
She gave me something to really think about
Her answer was that her friend
Was not interested in allowing someone else
To step into her place
And take over the life she had built
And that’s quite deep
Because in a time of distress
This person chose to look beyond their self
To see what the future might be
And I’ll bet there are many
Who in hindsight
Would take that same moment
And would rather chose the path her friend chose
Not to blow it up
But find the path forward
Rebuilding parts that need repair
But not losing your place in line
