Sandy
So I’m sitting in the dark
Lights finally flickered out
They were on and off all day
Then the wind kicked up
And away went the power
It’s Hurricane Sandy
And she’s blowing hard
But I’m alone-
Little joke there
I’ve been listening to police radio
Just to pass the time
Interesting
Life’s little dramas
And some pretty big
You get the sense of how major things get
In the midst of the storm
Trees and wires down
Trees into houses
Roadways on fire
And someone responds-
Police
Fire
Shade Tree
Highway
PECO
People putting their lives on the line
In the middle of the chaos
One crisis at a time
But responding to it all
I did it at one time
As a volunteer
Racing from call to call
You don’t really sense the danger
You get too focused on the mission
The wind is really getting strong
I have the door open and can hear the gusts
Blowing through the empty trees
It’s a different kind of blackout
One where there’s access to the outside world
On Iphones and tablets
Linked to the world wirelessly
And with computers
So stories can be written
As they happen
Like this
So Different
So Cool
So Real
