It’s Only Social
I was looking at a picture on line
A very cute shot of a friend
That captured a moment
A happy moment for sure
And although you could almost feel the emotion
It was only social
Just a picture on a screen
Of another detached moment in space
But sometimes it becomes real
Like last night
At a show
In the most random way
I was speaking with an acquaintance
About this and that
And she asked if I knew her friend
She mentioned her name
And somewhere in the back of my mind
It rang a bell
Not sure why
But I said I thought so
In the next moment
Her friend appears
And voila, I know her
Not from knowing her, but seeing her on line
Which was a little weird
Because I have no idea why I know her
Although I have recently experimented
With expanding my social network through random connects
More on that another time
Anyway we had that awkward moment
Where we knew - but we didn’t
And we had shared things
But not really
It was only social
Not real
Not attached
Just voyeuristic
We smiled at each other
And then moved on
The next band was coming on
And really what was there to say
I’m sure we’ll see each other again
But not really
On a screen, in a place
Where it’s only social
