The Buzz at the Mall
Hit the mall yesterday
Had to get some new jeans
A major purchase
Gotta be Levis.
Wandered a bit to see what was doing
Busy traffic
But not a lot of shopping bags
I looked for the buzz
Where the action was
Trying to see if there was a clue
Of what’s coming next.
My first stop was outside MAC
Seemed kind of jumping
Don’t really understand ladies cosmetics
But I do know MAC
And they seemed to have the buzz.
Checked out some other cosmetic counters
Mostly in the department stores
Not so much buzz.
Note to self, brands matter right now.
Speaking of the big boxes,
Nordstrom had the buzz, Neiman’s did not.
Frenetic pace in women’s shoes
Up and down the escalators
Nordstrom had something going.
Neiman’s looked like a museum of fine wares.
Salespeople looked like curators.
Very quiet.
I hit the Bose store and saw their home theater presentation.
Not really too spectacular.
The salesman said the presentation was four years old.
That’s what I’m looking for, real old technology.
The last place I looked
The place with ALL the buzz
Was the Apple store.
Of course.
Packed from front to back
Buyers, learners, geniuses and sellers.
A really unique brand experience.
And I guess that’s what people are looking for right now.
Laser precision
A brand they know
Products they like.
Shopping is less about looking
And more about getting things done.
So that was my trip to the mall
Some buzz
Some brands
And a realization that there are pockets of success.
Be true to yourself
Others will follow.
