On Broadway

As Labor Day rolls around each year

It always seems like a good time for reflection

At least for a look at the summer just past

And this summer was in a word - smashing

And while the summer was filled

With friends and family

Labor Day weekend was spent with my dear friends

David and Jenine

Now a weekend with this couple

Is like being on Broadway

It’s a never-ending show

An improv in which you get to participate

Of course they are the stars

But there’s a supporting cast as well

Daughter Dana, Her husband Gabo

Whose weekend run was cut short by something called work

Dylan and Daisy

Special guest stars

And a few cameos from the cast of my own crew

The weekend could have been recorded as television mash up

Making the lunch -

Which could be a 10-part mini-series on the Food Network

Floor repair and molding  -

With special guest star George on HGTV

And the Bachelor in Paradise on ABC

Which by the way - isn’t me

We drank and we laughed

Holding court on the deck

Watching the sun set

As Buddha Bar played on into darkness

There’s never a fight

There isn’t the time

But the banter is great

And show never stops

As the weekend wound down

I held a wrap party

For the cast and crew

And a cameo player too

We toasted new friends and old

With a taste of Silver Oak

Eye contact to all

For luck and for love

Now the curtain falls

On a weekend of fun

And a great summer to remember

With autumn just around the corner

But as they say on Broadway

The show must go on

And go on it will -

See you in the next act
