On Set
I spent the day on set today
On a movie
Written by a friend and a partner
What looks like a pretty good film
A talented cast
Working at a hectic pace
To deliver a lot of work
In a limited window of time
What got me thinking though
Was one scene
Where a husband and wife had a tiff
One of those…..well you know
And as I watched
I relived that moment in my own life
More times than I care to count
Trying to do the right thing
But usually just making a mess of it all
What was so interesting
Was that in a movie
With a script and dialogue
You get to do it again and again
And you try it different ways
With different inflections and attitudes
The words are the same
But the tiff goes in all different directions
As I watched take after take
I wondered if life had some kind of redo
Where you could just stop
And try it again
It doesn’t really
Unless you have a special connection
That allows for a time out
And a heart check of what matters
The scene finished after a little while
And the crew packed up to move to the next set up
But I took that moment with me
Wondering how not to make a mess of things the next time
Maybe I just need to read ahead
