Making Snow Angels

I met an old friend

It was years between visits.

Many, many years

We had stayed in touch on and off

But meeting had never happened

Too busy

Too far

As it turned out, too much hurt

We met outside the city

On a whim

A moments notice

And voila, there she was

As beautiful as ever

Nothing had changed

It was like we hadn’t missed a beat

We met at the hotel room door

Big hug

The door closed

Locked out

It was the precursor for things to come

We had a drink

And chatted it up

It was so comfortable

We just cruised along

A snow storm started falling heavily outside

It didn’t matter

We headed out for our dinner in the storm

A quaint little spot

Named for the former owner’s daughter

Amanda’s

They kept the name

We were almost alone

We sat near a window

Where a small evergreen with little Christmas lights

Collected the snow

A winter wonderland

We joked about running outside

Making snow angels

And just being silly

We closed Amanda’s

Probably past Amanda’s bedtime

The snow had emptied the streets

Finding a cab was a challenge

We walked for a bit and then flagged down a ride

Onto a local spot

A bend of the wrist

A few more cocktails

It was getting late

Our driver had deserted us as the storm dumped

We had met her niece along the way

A pretty model

With a brilliant smile

With no ride in sight

And ten blocks to cover

Our path was set

We marched down the street

In the middle of course

On our way back to the hotel

Holding onto each other

Laughing and joking

An excellent adventure.

We were stopped by a police cruiser

Step to the sidewalk please

You might get run over

Oh sorry

How about a ride to the hotel?

A moments thought

And then no-

But be safe, good night

We did find a ride

And got back soon enough

We didn’t want the ride to end

We went back up and ordered a pizza

24 hr room service

What a wonderful thing.

I flipped on the television

An Olympics recap

This one and that one

Gold silver bronze

I dozed off on the couch

And awoke sometime later

My friend and her niece had gone onto bed

I was left alone to ponder the night

A wonderful night

One I had waited for so long to happen

It was funny and friendly

Heartfelt and real

I always wondered how things might have worked out differently

I found out she did too

I learned that love never dies

And the questions of youth

Upon reflection

Are answered positively

If you always keep a positive mind

Sometimes you just have to go for it

Don’t let obstacles stand in the way

Just go make snow angels out in the storm

I hope we get the chance to meet again

It’s a part of my life I’ve always cherished

I was so lucky to make it real

Now to keep it real
