The Dock

So I have this friend

Someone I’ve known for a bit

Nice guy, family man

A stand up kind of fellow

He’s had some success in his days

And has built himself a home

A second home

On a lake

In the mountains

Now that may not seem so special

Lots of people do it

But this cat has some unique neighbors

Neighbors who are entitled

Really entitled

I mean over the top entitled

My friend loves to ski

Snow and water-

So he has a dock behind his house

Ya know

Nice little pier into the lake

Where you’d tied up a speedboat

Anyway he comes along one day

And it’s gone

Poof

Right out of the water

Pilings and all

Looking next door

He sees his neighbors have a new dock

Right there, near where his used to be

If you can believe this

I can’t

But yes

They took it

Lock, stock and pilings

They thought it looked better

On their land

Where they put it

They just figured he wouldn’t miss it I guess

Well you can imagine

It didn’t go so well after that-

It’s still going

And I’m sure in the end he’ll get his dock back

With a little pain in the pocket

And a whole lot of time

In the meantime

I just serenade him-

Whistling the old Otis Redding tune

“Sittin’ on the dock of the bay, wasting time.”
