Yes Dear - I'll Take It From Here

This weekend

Was a trip looking back

And one looking ahead

Visiting and creating memories

I had the great fortune

To join some dear friends

For their daughter's wedding

In Miami F-L-A

Hundreds were there

Literally

And no accommodation was forgotten

It's was a royal event - fit for a princess

In my world

Many from my childhood days attended

And we partied and danced

Across the sun soaked beaches of Key Biscayne

We dined as a dozen

At the famous Joe's Stone Crab

Sipped cocktails and canapés

On the bay overlooking the Miami skyline

We enjoyed days on the beach

Afternoons by the pool

And enjoyed the spa

For fitness and massage

I had the great chance

To ride with the bride and groom to their rehearsal dinner

And hear of their excitement for the days ahead and their life together

But more on that in a moment

On the night of their affair

At the edge of the ocean

With a gentle breeze wafting across the beach

Their magic happened

And it was so beautiful

Truly a fairy tale

With invited guest seated across a veranda

And many more watching from balconies above

There were toasts and a celebration

That went long into the night

Until the wee hours of the morning

When even the strongest had to say goodnight

As I look back on it all

There were two lines

That summed up the weekend

One for the groom and one for the bride

For the groom

It was my only thought on our ride to the rehearsal dinner

Practice two words

"Yes dear"

He tried it during our ride

It worked -

We shared a sly smile across the front seat

He's gonna be just fine

For the bride it was classic

During her toast to her fiancé and his family

She gushed at the wonderful person that they had raised

And how loving and special he was

Then without missing at beat

She said -

"I've got it from here"

Yes, she's gonna to be just fine too

And so as the newlyweds embark on their journey

I got to reflect on the stories shared

Some from their look ahead

And many more from my friends of all time

It was quite a weekend

One of those moments

Like capturing lightening in a bottle

Where it brightens your world

And just makes you smile
