No Parade
I was speaking to a friend
I don’t even remember the topic
Something to be announced
In some fashion or another
But she said
“No parade”
Which stuck with me
And gave me an idea for a short film
So follow this
Because I can’t write another screenplay right now
But I do like the story-
When I got engaged
I had a helicopter deliver the ring
It was over the top
But fun
So in that light here goes-
We see this couple looking in the window of a jewelry store
They are obviously in love
And looking at the shiny stones in the window
The girl says they all look so beautiful
And so lovely
But she’s just happy with something simple
Something they can have with each other
Intimate
“No parade”
And as she says that
In that moment
A flash mob parade
Starts to happen all around them
First we hear marching band music
And people on the sidewalks go into the streets
They dance and begin to line up stopping traffic
From a side street a full marching band enters the picture
They begin to march down the street with the sidewalk dancers in tow
Kids on bicycles join in the line
A float with Miss Whoknowswhat appears behind the band
She’s in full beauty pageant regalia
Sash, crown, the whole deal
Behind her are some animated characters
All marching to the beat
Big smiles
Lots of love
Our couple stands in front of the store taking it all in
The guy then begins to move his girl closer to the street
Taking her by the arm and nudging her along
As the dancers, band, pageant float and characters pass
Excitement builds
We are still hearing the band
And others on the sidewalk are looking on
Then there’s a break in the parade
Nothing happens
The music is playing
But the street has become empty
Finally from down the street
We see a 7-year old boy
Walking toward us
Wearing a tuxedo with a boutonniere
We capture him from a crane shot overhead
As he walks down the street
He gets bigger in frame as he approaches our couple
The music stops
When he comes upon our couple he stops
He looks at our girl
Then looks at our guy
And winks handing him a little box
Taking the box
Our guy drops to one knee and proposes
Time stops
Everyone holds their breath
A huge smile comes across our girls face with a big “Yes!”
Happiness explodes
And the band strikes up a tune
A florist from the street comes out with a big bouquet of roses
The dancers return and we crane up to see a big celebration
We cut back to our couple
Our girl hugs her guy with a big “I love you”
Our guy just looks at her and says “Sorry about the parade!”
Big laughs
