The Kitchen
It was a glorious day at the shore
One of the first of the new season
So much sun and fun
And action up and down the beach
I spent the day strolling a bit
There was a lifeguard race
Where this year’s crop of beach patrollers
Competed in a swim from off shore to on
There was the ice cream lady
And the sky banner planes
And all the sounds of surf and fun
Telling you summer is a moment away
I spent the day with my toes in the sand
Just soaking up the sun
And then got a message
From a neat friend who was just relaxing nearby
We had talked about getting together
And now the timing seemed right
She was just on her deck
Gathering some rays and a little bit of shut eye
I came upon her
And as always she looked beautiful
A goddess of the day
Just shining in the afternoon light
We caught up on this and that
Sort of like we always do
There’s a special connection there
One that’s been stoked a bit in the recent past
We laughed and looked forward
Planning and comparing notes.
From her deck overlooking the dock
The sun began to fall
Over the rooftops of the lovely bay houses
We chatted some more
And then it was time to go
Seems our rendezvous always end too soon
But I had made plans
And was already late
Before I left
I had to see one thing
The kitchen
In her sparkling home
Odd you may say
The kitchen?
Why so?
Because I had seen it before
Not in person
But in a dream
Or a vision
Or whatever you might call it
And it was exactly as I had seen it
The color of the granite
The cabinets
The angles and the lights
It bode well for my friend
It was a positive sign
One that meant
There’s happiness on the way
For me it made my head spin.
It’s still spinning now
I didn’t think it was really possible
But I saw it
And so I know-
That kitchen showed me the power
The force
And the love
That surrounds us all
And while I’ve been told
My time for happiness is coming soon too
I’m going to keep looking deep inside
To push the positive energy out
Because nothing is truer than
Love is all about what you want to give
Not what you expect to get
I want to give a lot.
