My Rearview Mirror
So I'm moving down the road
Leaving behind-
With a heavy heart
A most beautiful piece of art
Not by choice
But rather
By choices made
By another
I've been here before
And have made decisions
I've regretted
So this time-
I'm choosing
The other fork in the road-
To see if there's a filling station
Somewhere over the horizon
It's hard to let go
Some much learned
And so much fun
But like standing in line at the club
Waiting to be invited in
Hoping you get the nod-
I never worried too much about the line
A celeb and a limo
Or being on the list for real
Or Uncle Benjamin
Usually took care of business
But this line is different
At some point you realize
You're just not going in
And it's time to move on
So as I look in my rearview mirror
Staring at the shining beauty
Standing amongst admirers
So stunning and so chic
I smile to myself
Knowing of opportunities lost
But of great things coming
Just over the horizon
