The Woman in Gold

I saw the film
Now I'm standing
At the actual painting
In the Neue Gallery in New York

You can't take pictures
So I thought
I'd capture an image in words
A picture for your mind

If you've seen the film
Then you know of the picture
It's the star of the movie
A glittering work of gold
By the Austrian artist
Gustav Klimt

In person it has so much depth
Layers and shapes in all directions
When you look at it-
It looks back at you

And while one woman
Went to the U S Supreme Court
And battled the Austrian government
To regain it's possession

The real majesty is in the life
That is beholden in the piece-
A life lived a long time ago
But with a  spirit that is very much alive

It's impressive and quite unique
And was probably worth the fight
To get the painting back
And to get the movie made

Each was a battle I'm sure
Interestingly I've now seen both
And I can confirm
Each battle was worth the victory
