Little Things

What defines a relationship for you

Acts of kindness

Grand emotion

Sweeping engagement

I think we each have a place

Somewhere inside

That defines a relationship

In our own way

I was thinking about it

And challenged myself

With that question

What defines it for me

My answer surprised me

But not really

Because I’m mostly introspective

When it comes to me

My answer was the little things

Those things

You almost take for granted

Until they’re not there

Holding hands

A back rub

Scratching your head

Until you drift off to sleep

It’s not places and people

It’s touches and smells

Senses shared

And a passion as one

You can’t take it with you

So while you’re here

Enjoy all the little things

They can add up to a very big life
