Caring

I was sitting in a Starbucks this morning

Across from an interracial couple

Waiting in line for their morning brew

She was animated

Explaining something of merit

He had a nametag on-

Hello I'm Blake

As she went on

He just rubbed her back

Affectionately

But also with a purpose

To show he cared

That he was listening

As they moved around

To pick up their morning elixirs

It struck me

The openness of their relationship

Their caring

And not caring, in the lily-white enclave of which I was sitting

It made me think about whose back I would rub,

Who would care

Or share

An intimate moment

And time-

For all to see

And to be

With just one.

Caring, sharing, listening and living-

Happily ever after
