Dining with a Super Star

So I have this friend

Someone from a long time ago

Who I reconnected with

Which is always an interesting event

We had been fast friends

In the very fast 80s

At least that was her memory

And I’m in no position to disagree

My memory was a bit different

Not because of the context

But rather the content

Which I think surprised her

We had both met through some friends

She was an assistant to an up and comer in New York

A very powerful man

With an ego to match

But she had a plan

And she explained it all to me

Over the course of a couple dates

She shared every detail and I never forgot

She apparently did

Which was a bit of a smile

But no matter-

She had checked all the boxes

And succeeded beyond even her plan

A super star in New York and Hollywood

With a resume to match

But what was so nice

Was that she was exactly the same

Nothing about her success got in the way

We just clicked like we had so long ago

The stories were better

And the names were all very well known

But the connection was unchanged

It was refreshing

And nice

And totally unexpected

Some things never change though

She ordered dessert right after the appetizer

Which was totally in character

And completely fine

I guess we all have our eccentricities

And we can get swept away by our own press clippings

But it’s still nice to find that even over time

Nice people remain nice

And friendships last forever
