The Candy Store

I remember when I was a kid

Going to the candy store

The smell of the fresh candy

And the wood floors - all mashed up

Peeking into the displays of chocolates

All lined up in a row

Patiently waiting my turn to choose

And then having my chance

Back then much like today

You think you can choose

What you want

But it’s not always that simple

Back then mom stepped in

And limited the long list of desirables

Today it’s more just the chosen

Who have a lot to say

And while you can see the gems

All shiny like the candy

You must still wait patiently as before

Looking at gems and wishing on stars
