Just a Good Thing

So I have this friend

She’s one I’ve known for years

Super cute

And really smart

She’s coming out of her own situation

Well organized

And clearly set

To keep on keeping on

It’s such a dilemma

Because as fond as I am of her

I have no control

It’s just out of my hands

Our time is on her clock

Which I wouldn’t say is exactly ideal

But it’s okay

And I must admit

That’s a shocking acknowledgement

And that’s because it’s just a good thing

We laugh

We joke

We see things from the same place

It’s easy

I’ve always pushed these things

Trying to make them something different

More intimate

More connected

Or just more

But this time, I’m not-

Why wreck a good time

For once I’m just going with it

And not trying to form it into my vision

Riding the tide

To see where it goes

Happy and smiling

Because it’s just a good thing
