A Short Chapter

If you can look at life in chapters

Then this unfortunately

Is one of the shorter ones

My mother’s companion

Martin Field passed away

He was a giant in many ways

But at his core was his heart

Martin lived large

And in the short time I knew him

He regaled me with stories and experiences

That filled a lifetime

He was so very kind to my mom

They adored each other

And he would go the extra mile

In every way to be sure she was happy

He offered to pay her electricity bill

Because she was always turning out the lights in her apartment

They would dine on the square

Because that’s what they liked

When I moved into my new house

Martin came to visit

He was so excited by it

I offered him the spare bedroom in case he wanted to move in

He never stopped

He was wheeling and dealing

Up to his last days

His clock was wound for action

I had the pleasure

To become part of the family

And for the moment

It was grand

So bon voyage

To a Captain of Industry

Sailing into waters

Of eternal fun

I’m sure the waters

Will be filled with joy

And with expectations of the next chapter

Written in the stars
